Richard Mollet became Chief Executive of the Publishers Association in October 2010. In this role he is responsible for leading political engagement with government and parliament at a national and EU level and representing the publishing sector in the broadcast and print media. He is also tasked with co-ordinating the work of The PA in its main areas of activity including promoting reading for pleasure, workforce development and anti-piracy.
Prior to this he was Director of Public Affairs at the BPI (the representative body of the UK recorded music industry) where he was closely involved in UK and EU policy debates around the value of copyright and the creative industries, and was part of the team responsible for securing the Digital Economy Act and copyright term extension for sound recordings.
Before joining the BPI Richard had ten years experience as a political communications consultant, working across a range of political and media sectors. He studied PPE at Worcester College, Oxford University. Richard is Chair of the cross-industry Alliance for Intellectual Property and Chair of Trustees of World Book Day and a Board member of the Publishers Licensing Society.

Its membership of 117 companies spans the academic, education and trade sectors, comprising small and medium enterprises through to globally successful companies. The PA’s members annually account for around £4.6bn of turnover, with £3.1bn derived from the sales of books and £1.5bn from the sales of learned journals.)
