Gulf Arab Students’ Reading Challenges
Limited Capacity seats available

The standard methodology for TESOL (teaching reading to English as a Second Language) is based on students having reached a degree of literacy in their own language. However, teachers arriving in the Gulf region soon realise that students face challenges when learning to read in English. Some of the challenges are home literacy practices, the impact of Arabic diglossia, how students are taught to read in Arabic, and the differing phonological access routes in English and Arabic. Dr. Gobert, president of Tesol Arabia, will shed some light on possible solutions to the challenges that our students face.

Adaptive learning - which is a new high tech type of e-learning - has the potential to fundamentally change how teachers teach and students learn. The big difference compared to previous learning interventions is that adaptive learning can deliver individualised learning in a scaleable way. Obviously not everything can be taught through adaptive learning, but through addressing a significant number of learning needs efficiently and effectively, the role and the focus of the teacher can be supported greatly.

What it's like to grow up with dyslexia and how to overcome it
Limited Capacity seats available

Magnus Ljunggren a dyslectic and an author, will tell his own story of what it was like to grow up with dyslexia and how he overcame it. Being dyslectic is being at war with the alphabet. At first Magnus was losing this war. He didn’t want to write at all. It made him feel stupid and humiliated. He got scolded and laughed at a lot. Then Magnus discovered the joy of telling stories, and the words became nothing more than a tool to use - and dyslexia lost its grip over him. Today Magnus has written 24 books.
