Karam Youssef founded Al Kotob Khan book shop and publishing house in 2006. From day one, Al Kotob Khan works as a cultural center -Enlightening point- engaged in its social cultural environment through several activities e.g. creative writing workshops that give the creative writing scene in Egypt many refined writers who won prestigious local literary prizes (Sawiris). Al Kotob Khan, also commences lectures of musical and cinema education, movie screenings, insight book discussions and acoustic music concerts. Many of Al Kotob Khan titles have earned prestigious literary awards (Sawiris, Cairo Book Fair prize) with a distinguished inclination towards publishing young authors’ first debuts, and translating and publishing foreign language fiction and non-fiction to Arabic. Al Kotob Khan also participates as an active part of its society through several political and social raising awareness activities.
